I am 25-years young and I want to take the world by the balls.

This is my story about career, love, friendships, and the quest to get to “the point.”

Once a state highway and still a large commercial thoroughfare, West Colfax Avenue and nearby 13th Avenue, historically gave way to open prairies and farms. After the construction of West 6th Avenue and Intestate 70, W. Colfax Ave through Lakewood slowly declined and began to gain more of a seedy reputation of its eastern counterpart.

Although the entirety of Colfax Avenue has been designated a Colorado Heritage Corridor by the Colorado State government, many neighborhoods on and nearby remain forgotten.  While driving up and down W. Colfax Avenue day after day, I began to notice how much character it radiates visually. Block after block, glowing neon signs project unique typographic specimen into the night sky, while hand painted storefronts and spray-painted signatures blend together to make mile-long murals facing strings of car dealerships.

The original “To West Colfax, With Love” blog site was dedicated to a public art project, completed in winter of 2007. It documented a mural project which transformed sewage drains, trash cans and alleyways into art, at least conceptually.

Now, 2 years later, I reflect, not only on the intrigue of art in public spaces, but of art and inspiration in everyday life.
